Virtual Reality Tours of San Luis Obispo
VR180 uses a 180-degree stereoscopic view to create depth and scale in a compatible virtual reality headset. These San Luis Obispo VR videos combine high-resolution 3D photography, music and ViewMaster-like transitions to present familiar Central Coast places in an immersive format.
For the clearest YouTube picture: Start the video, open the Settings gear, select Quality, and choose the highest resolution available. On a phone or tablet, you may need to select Advanced before choosing the resolution.
The ViewMaster Connection
The original View-Master debuted at the 1939 New York World’s Fair as a three-dimensional alternative to scenic postcards. Each reel contained seven stereoscopic scenes—14 tiny color transparencies, with one image for each eye.
Travelers could buy reels featuring popular destinations at photography and stationery stores and tourist gift shops, often displayed on racks alongside postcards. Mattel ended production of the classic scenic tourist reels in December 2008, although character reels continued afterward.
